Acceptable
Use for Computing Resources
Material Resources Policy #204
Saint Anthony College of Nursing (SACN) provides an array of computing
resources for SACN students, faculty, staff, and the community at
large. Users are responsible for their activities and accountable
for their conduct while using computing resources. The purpose of
this statement is to outline user responsibilities in the appropriate
use of computing resources. It is the responsibility of all users
of SACN computing resources to read and understand this policy.
Computing resources are available to SACN faculty and staff to meet
their employment role responsibilities in providing SACN students
education and necessary support.
Computing resources are available to students for educational related
needs in completing their SACN coursework.
Computing resources are available to the community at the discretion
of College librarians or College administration and with the understanding
that SACN students, faculty, and staff are given priority.
Personal use of computing resources is allowed so long as others
are not in need of using those resources, and all policies are being
followed appropriately.
Privacy
Investigating or reading another users files is a privacy
violation. Reading files without prior authorization from administration
is considered the same as breaking and entering.
Theft
Computer theft is considered to be the unauthorized removal or attempted
removal of SACN computing resources (hardware, software, data, etc.)
or the copying or attempted copying of data or software without
proper authorization.
Vandalism
Users are prohibited from using SACN or OSF network access to affect
other computers on the College or OSF network in any way. The execution
of computer programs intended to gain unauthorized access to or
make unauthorized use of computing resources or software is prohibited.
Computer Services staff and the Director College Learning Resource
Center and Information Officer are the only people authorized to
load software on College computers or change configurations. Computer
hardware or software may not be damaged or defaced.
Copyright
SACN encourages the sharing and dissemination of information and
the free expression of ideas. However, users of computing resources
are obligated to respect the intellectual property rights of others
when using these resources. Duplicating and/or distributing information
in violation of applicable copyright laws is not permitted. Users
are furthermore prohibited from using resources and/or network access
to violate any other laws.
Harassment
Pornographic or other offensive material, including material that
may be interpreted as harassment by others, may not be viewed, downloaded,
or transmitted to or from any computer on the OSF network. SACN
computing resources may not be used to send abusive or obscene messages.
Violators of this policy are potentially subject to a range
of penalties, including loss of computing privileges, disciplinary
actions by Saint Anthony College of Nursing, and possible criminal
and civil law proceedings. Saint Anthony College of Nursing will
not be held liable for the violation of this policy. Litigation
costs and damages for violations shall be the responsibility of
the individual in violation.
